The Carlos E. Cortés Archive is an educational project that preserves and shares the published work of Dr. Carlos E. Cortés. This policy explains what information we collect when you use the site and its interactive guide, and how we handle it.
Who we are
The Archive is created and maintained by Alexandria's Design as an educational, non-commercial tribute to Dr. Cortés's scholarship. The site includes a timeline of his life and work and an interactive guide ("Ask the Archive") that answers questions using a Curated Language Model built only from his own books, articles, lectures, and professional materials. The guide is an educational tool. It is not Dr. Cortés, and it does not provide personal, medical, legal, financial, or professional advice.
Information we collect
- Questions you submit. When you ask the guide a question, we process the text you enter in order to generate a response.
- Basic technical data. Like most websites, our hosting and content-delivery providers may automatically log standard information such as your browser type, device type, approximate region, and the pages you visit, to keep the site secure and working.
You do not need to create an account, and we do not ask you for your name, email, or other identifying details to use the site.
How your questions are processed
To answer your questions and, when you choose, to provide spoken audio, the site sends your question to trusted third-party services that provide the underlying technology:
- OpenAI — generates written responses from the curated materials.
- ElevenLabs — produces optional spoken audio of a response.
- Simli — powers the optional on-screen avatar.
- Render and Cloudflare — host and deliver the site.
These providers process your question only to deliver the feature you requested and according to their own privacy practices. We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Cookies and analytics
The site uses only the essential storage needed to function (for example, remembering whether you turned audio on or off and your selected language). We do not use advertising cookies or sell data to advertisers.
Data retention
Submitted questions may be retained in aggregate or anonymized form to help us improve the accuracy and usefulness of the Archive. We keep technical logs only as long as needed for security and reliability.
Children
The Archive is suitable for a general audience, including educators and students. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Your choices
You can use the site without providing any personal information. You can turn spoken audio on or off at any time, and you can choose not to submit any question that contains personal details.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above.
